Milpark Competition

Social Housing

Our very own Director, Daniele Cronje, in collaboration with Jason Evetts won the Milpark Social Housing competition held by Delta Built Environment Consultants on behalf of the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA). The competition was part of the concept development and typologies process for a site in Milpark and postgraduate architecture students, from UJ and WITS University, were invited to submit proposals as part of a student competition arranged over two rounds.

Upon competition entry, Daniele and Jason had the opportunity to develop their concept designs with a professional architect, accredited by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession, and attend a workshop for housing design to further develop their competition entries.

Unit Plans

14 Unit typologies were created for a variety of family typologies and their specific income needs. Unit designs were structured around the SHRA (Social Housing Regulatory Authority) unit typology guide for income bands and minimum sizes. The scheme consists of 296 units and provides a 0.3 parking ratio derived from the site restrictions
